.: SOLICIDE :.

Bio : The name 'Solicide' (murder of the sun) is derived from the phrase 'Who killed the sun?', coming from the 'My Dying Bride' track 'It will come'.
The view of the band's founder on the world explains the name more fully: 'Light blinds and darkness is a time to live'. The word 'light' is used here as a symbol for several institutions (the church, the nation, the government, ...) that abuse the individual. 'Darkness', on the other hand is an individual concept: in darkness you can't see any other people... It's just you there...

'Solicide' was founded in 1999 and initially the music was influenced by 'My Dying Bride', although the music gained a slower and more repetitive feel. After getting to know 'Skepticism', the timpani and church organ gained more importance in the music of 'Solicide'. Other bands who had influence on 'Der Untergang des Abendlandes' are : 'Thergothon', 'Dolorian', 'Hlidolf', ...

Every 'Solicide' album will bring a tale about a 'light' that dies. This debut tells the tale of the western culture ('Abendland'). The title of the album itself comes from a work from 'Oswald Spengler' with the same title. Solicide supports Splengler’s image on 'cultures': cultures are determined to have a high point and to eventually fade away, die and disappear.
The 'doom' of the western culture is no source of joy or sadness. Solicide's point of view is one of indifference, knowing that the world will continue it's bloody and painful course with the rise and fall of many.
For the majority of people of the Occident, the western culture is in many ways a kind of 'light'. This album shows this culture as a doomed entity, based on contradictions and living it's last days. It's a determined proces... There's no way to change it...
One of the most tragic facts of this process is that few people actually notice the fall of the culture that gives the foundation of their life and society. The entire world of many will suddenly be reduced to nothing, but a handful of fading memories, resulting in individual and social chaos ...

Solicide brings very slow funeral doom mixed with church organs and timpani with some mid-tempo doom/death parts. Music for fans of 'Skepticism', 'Thergothon' and 'Until Death Overtakes Me'.
