Reviews : unknown writer
It's not really my job to write reviews about
unfinished rehearsal tracks, but after hearing the other UDOM and IDNM
material, it's quite interesting to see the evolution, as these tracks
reflect the very beginning of UDOM and also gave an idea of what IDNM
might offer in the future.
I will start with IDNM, there's one track one this split by this
project, at the time the album was released, IDNM was less than a
month old and this track, 'Hibernus Silentius', that also appeared on
the first IDNM album, 'Fade - Die', shows a very machine-like ambience
that produces a certain dark and threathening atmosphere. There were
no changes (except for some extra mastering and fixing the
soundquality a bit) compared to the track as it appeared later on
IDNM's first album.
On to the UDOM tracks. Long, repetitive tracks, not as slow as the
later material, but already showing the interest in 'unusual' sounds,
like combining synths with electric guitars and long acoustic
interludes. Both 'They Never Hope' and 'Silent Dreams' consist only
out of acoustic and electric guitars, some synths and drums and
several effected guitar interludes. A remarkable track is 'In The
Mist', extremely minimalistic dronings, created only by manipulating a
bass guitar and applying several effects to it...this track will later
be put on 'Symphony II - Absence Of Life', in a shorter version and
will enventually lead to the start of the project with the same title
as this track. 'They Never Hope' changed a bit and ended up in two
different versions on the 2 releases of 'Symphony I - Deep Dark Red'.
From 'Silent Dreams', only the ambient guitar interlude was used as
intro on the re-released version of 'Symphony I - Deep Dark Red'.
