Reviews : EverDarkGreen - written by O.S.
What you see is what you get: the cover of the second part of Nulll Records’ Interludium series depicts the optical manifestation
of the soundwave contained on the cd. This time DREAMS OF DYING STARS is the project that has taken on a strange new twist – from
symphonic ambient/darkwave to droning electronic minimalism…
On the first glance from far away this vast track looks like a giant silver stream that bursts forth from between the stars and
slowly reaches towards infinity. Smooth and slick, nowhere to hold on to, a monumental cosmic droning that ever so slowly shifts
into focus through a five minute long fade in. There is nowhere to hold on to, just the solid slick and smooth pillar of cold
drone with its seemingly ever shifting frequency focus.
One note, one hour. Yes, you got it right, this track consists more or less of one single note that undergoes several subtle
variations. Does it work? No. Not from the distance.
But if you come closer, put on headphones, focus and drift closer towards the huge sonic entity, you will notice fine cracks,
fissures in the reflecting shiny texture, tiny places to latch on to. Under the current, there is life aplenty… When you actually
dive into the stream, a strange effect sets in and the actually static sound seems to vibrate and become fast, a humming, the song
of creation. You might notice a faint rhythmic swelling and subsiding and begin to wonder what else you might discover if you only dare to venture on.
This could be called spiritual music. One single, unobtrusive hum, a hymn to nihilism and the depths of the universe. Extreme
minimalism that will either bore you to death or will fascinate you for hours. Meditation music, the chant of the stars,
threatening, calming, whatever you want it to be, it only depends on the amount of attention you pay to it.
If you put it on repeat, the gentle fade in and fade out will mend the track into an infinite tide of drone ambient that will
cure your insomnia and open a gate to the stars. Soul numbing, weird and excellent.
